  • Golf Tips for Ladies

Best easy tips: "Optimizing this zone by using effective speed control can, in essence, help you putt to a larger cup. If you can putt your ball at the correct speed, you will get "lucky" more often!"

    golf_peace

Tips for Her: Focus on speed control

The diameter of a golf hole is 4.25 inches, and the speed of the putt can effectively narrow or widen the circumference of the hole.

On the putting green, speed is more important than aim, and it's a vital part of being an excellent putter.

The speed of a putt dictates how much it'll break. The diameter of a golf hole is 4.25 inches, and the speed of the putt can effectively narrow or widen the circumference of the hole. Too much speed will limit your break, which can cause your putt to lip out because your target is smaller.

Do you ever hit putts that track directly towards the hole only to lip around the edge and miss? Even if your aim is slightly offline, a ball that travels at the correct speed can curl over the edge and into the hole.

  • Tiger Woods No. 1 again

With Tiger Woods' back-to-back, always-in-command two-stroke wins at Doral and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, he has now won six times in his last 20 PGA Tour events over a 53-week span and is, indeed, No. 1 on earth again.

Tiger Woods is back at No. 1. Now for the Masters.

Missing a long — and we do mean long — putt on the 18th green might have made Tiger Woods wince and curse in the past. But on Monday, as he finished up his victory in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, this Tiger Woods just smiled and jokingly bit his putter after a 73-foot attempt just barely missed the cup. Who is this new guy? The simple answer is that this Tiger Woods had just won for the third time in 2013, putting him back atop the world rankings for the first time in 29 months and moving him within five wins of tying Sam Snead’s PGA Tour record of 82.

    La Quinta, California
    January 24, 2012

American Mark Wilson is off to another fast start on the PGA Tour, holding off an abundance of challengers in an extended Sunday to capture the $US5.6 million ($A5.4 million) Humana Challenge tournament in California. Wilson fired a three-under-par 69 in the final round for a two-stroke victory - his fifth career USPGA Tour win and his third in 13 months. Wilson had to complete his third round on Sunday morning after strong winds disrupted the tournament the day before. He led by three strokes after the third round and then rolled in four birdies in the fourth to finish at 24-under 264.

  • Golf: New Zealand Open

Brad Kennedy has played on the PGA Tour of Australasia, Asian Tour and European Tour. He has won several minor tournaments in Queensland. He has a trio of second place finishes Asian and European Tours: the 2003 and 2004 Carlsberg Malaysian Opens and the 2004 Madeira Island Open.

    Brad Kennedy

Brad Kennedy might not be used to leading a golf tournament heading in to the final day but he will have to get his head around it quickly. On moving day at the New Zealand Open today, the major mover was the best player in the field on paper.

And while golf tournaments aren't played on paper, Australia's Kennedy entered this week's tournament at Clearwater in Christchurch with the highest world ranking of the 144-strong field. The global No 228 was solid throughout the opening two rounds but turned it up a notch on the third today (sat) as he shot an impressive four under to hold a three-shot lead at the event over Josh Geary.

Rocco Mediate still believes Tiger Woods will dominate golf again

    By Associated Press,

SAN MARTIN, Calif. — Rocco Mediate caused a stir in golf circles when he said he was “disgusted” with what’s going on with Tiger Woods’ swing, saying his physical motion is strong criticism of Woods’ most recent coaches, Sean Foley and Hank Haney.

Mediate didn’t back away from his opinion Tuesday, although he made it clear that few others are rooting harder for Woods to return to dominance. And he believes Woods will again get back to No. 1.

  • Bill Haas shot !!!

Bill Haas had a sinking feeling when he heard the gallery groan, the first indication that his shot had tumbled down the slope and into the lake. When he saw the ball only half-submerged in water, Haas figured he still had the slightest chance. To somehow save par. Against all odds, to stay alive in his sudden-death playoff with Hunter Mahan at the Tour Championship, the richest playoff in golf history with FedEx Cup and its $10 million bonus riding on the outcome.

    Haas shot unforgettable

By John Grainger, The StarPhoenix September 29, 2011
    Unbelievable. Inconceivable. Just plain crazy.

That shot Bill Haas hit Sunday to defeat Hunter Mahan will go down as a shot of a lifetime.

It was as big as Bob Tway's bunker shot in 1986 when he won the PGA Championship to beat Greg Norman. It was as big as Larry Mize's shot in the playoff in 1987 to beat Norman again. Haas's shot to win the Tour Championship and the FedExCup title was nothing short of amazing. How Haas got spin on the ball cannot be explained. How he could hit the ball cleanly out of the water cannot be explained.

  • Play Augusta

    How YOU can play Augusta

Augusta National, home of The Masters, is one of golf's most distinctive and evocative venues: the towering pines, the velvety fairways, the blistering greens and the searing drama mark the true start of the golfing season in the hearts and minds of golf fans across the world.

    Augusta golfer

Sadly, Augusta has always been as exclusive as it is appealing. Tickets are literally worth more than their weight in gold. The subscription lists of those permitted to buy tickets were closed decades ago, and though tickets make it on to the market the touts charge thousands from eager punters desperate to enjoy once-in-a-lifetime visits to tread the hallowed turf.

For everyone else, however, the gates remain firmly locked.

  • More US Marines send to Afghanistan

Anyone remember Pretz Barack Obama saying our soldiers are coming home? At the present time he sends 1,400 Marines to Afghanistan...

The Pentagon said on Thursday we will temporarily send 1,400 more Marines to Afghanistan in an effort to hold onto fragile security gains, but overall U.S. troop levels will not surpass previously announced limits!! The short-term deployments were ordered by U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, and come months before President Barack Obama plans to start withdrawing U.S. forces in July from the unpopular war against the Taliban.

What is going really on, we don't know?

    :??:

U.S. Plans to Send 1,400 More Marines to Afghanistan

    By ELISABETH BUMILLER

WASHINGTON — The United States will send an additional 1,400 Marines to Afghanistan in the next few months to try to solidify progress in areas of the south before troop reductions begin in the summer, a senior military official said on Thursday.

The Marines will be sent mostly to Kandahar province, the spiritual home of the Taliban and already an area of intense fighting by U.S. Army troops. American military officials say they have routed the Taliban from crucial areas of the province, but commanders remain under pressure to sustain that progress, as the White House examines whether a troop surge for the nearly decade-old war is working.

Ohio woman pleads guilty to exercising 73-year-old husband to death

    Sat Feb 14, 2:44 PM
    By The Associated Press

CHARDON, Ohio - A woman has pleaded guilty to reckless homicide for exercising her 73-year-old husband to death in a swimming pool, repeatedly refusing to let him leave the water.

Surveillance video showed Christine Newton-John, 41, pulling James Mason around the pool by his arms and legs, said Middlefield police Chief Joseph Stehlik.

The chief said he counted 43 times in which Newton-John prevented her husband from leaving the water, and Mason rested his head on the side of the pool several times while gasping for breath.

"The video is bone-chilling," Stehlik said. "The whole case is very sinister."
